About this retreat
Jade Mountain rises above Anse Chastanet on Saint Lucia's south-west coast, and its central conceit is unforgettable: the sanctuaries have no fourth wall. The room simply stops and the Caribbean begins, with the twin volcanic spires of the Pitons filling the gap where a window would be. Bridges cross open space to reach each one, and there are no televisions and no clocks.
Architect Nick Troubetzkoy designed the building into the hillside over many years, and the higher categories add private infinity pools finished in hand-laid glass tile that seem to spill straight towards Petit Piton. The materials are deliberately raw — coral stone, tropical hardwood, exposed concrete columns — set against an extravagant amount of sky.
Guests share the beach, reef and dive centre of sister resort Anse Chastanet below, with two black-sand bays and protected coral directly offshore. The Jade Mountain Club serves Caribbean fusion cooking at the top of the building, with much of the produce coming from the resort's own organic farm in the hills, and the chocolate from cocoa grown on the same estate.
