About this retreat
Eriska is a genuine private island — a 300-acre wedge of woodland, shoreline and salt marsh lying between Loch Linnhe and Loch Creran, connected to the Argyll mainland by a single Victorian iron bridge. Cross it and the traffic simply stops. Fallow deer graze the lawns at dusk, otters work the shoreline, and the Morvern hills rise across the water.
The house at its centre is a Scottish Baronial mansion of 1884, all crow-stepped gables and panelled halls, now holding a small collection of rooms, suites and standalone cottages. The cottages are the island's signature: private gardens, outdoor hot tubs and nothing but sea and sky in front of them.
Days here are deliberately unstructured — a walk of the island's full perimeter, a boat out to the sea lochs, a spa treatment, then dinner built on west-coast seafood landed within sight of the windows. It is one of very few places in Britain where you can walk the entire estate before breakfast and meet nobody at all.
